Only Jesus Saves - Michael’s story

Igal outside of the prison where Michael was recently released.

When Igal Vender received a call from a prison in Northern Israel, he didn’t recognise the caller. As Michael told him he needed God’s help, he realised who it was; they had met on the streets three years before, as Igal reports.

DIDN’T NEED JESUS

Michael was a Jewish drug addict who had told me that he was one of God’s Chosen People and as such didn’t need Jesus. Despite my many invitations to the rehab centre run by my church, Michael was confident that he could come off the drugs any time and didn’t need God’s help.

However, now Michael had been caught stealing to fund his habit, he was finally admitting he couldn’t help himself.

After we spoke, I got in touch with Michael’s lawyer. I ended up sharing my own testimony and explained the work of the rehab centre with him.

The lawyer agreed it would be a good place for Michael so, a week later, I was standing in front of a judge. I again shared how Jesus had changed my own life at the rehab centre, before explaining how we are able to help those like Michael there.

GOSPEL IN THE COURT

Taken aback, the judge said she never knew such help was available. I explained that those involved are driven by their faith in Jesus, before sharing the gospel in front of the whole court!

The judge was so impressed that she also agreed that this was the place for Michael and, under certain conditions, released him into my custody. I took Michael straight to the rehab house where he is now studying God’s Word daily, far away from the temptations and snares of the streets.

Please pray for Michael’s salvation as he learns about Jesus in the rehab centre and studies God’s Word with Igal and the other men there.
