Introducing Sergio
Sergio joined the missionary staff of International Mission to Jewish people in 2021, following decades of experience in reaching out to Jewish people in Brazil.
While serving in the Brazilian army Sergio met a young Christian, the son of a Baptist pastor who would regularly invite Sergio to church only to be told, ‘I’m Jewish, Jesus isn’t for me.’ Despite his objections, Sergio saw how his friend had a special peace - something he knew he desperately needed himself. This led to an ongoing in-depth study of God’s Word and other Christian books about Jesus. Shortly before this time, Sergio’s Jewish parents had both come to faith and had begun attending an evangelical church.
As he saw how the messianic prophecies of the Old Testament were fulfillled by Jesus in the New Testament, he knew that he needed the same relationship with God through Jesus that his parents and his friend had. On leaving the Army he asked his parents if he could join them at church and, within a short while, Sergio began following Jesus and both he and his sister were baptised together.
A year later, Sergio met an American missionary with whom he began studying the Bible and conducting outreach. This led to the establishment of a new church that had a committed focus on Jewish evangelism. Sergio went on to train as a pastor before beginning work as a full-time missionary to the Jewish people at the beginning 2001. This work continued for 15 years. After its conclusion, Sergio returned to secular work while continuing in voluntary pastoral work but, after a few years, felt a strong call to return to the Jewish mission field. This led him to be appointed as a missionary with International Mission to Jewish People and the renewal of our work in South America.
We look to people like you to help missionaries like Sergio share Jesus with Jewish people. Please prayerfully consider how you can support his ministry.
