The gift of peace and joy

Ida (far right) in North London with the short-term mission team from Hong Kong

PLEASE PRAY FOR: Kara
MISSIONARY: Ida Tam

LOCATION: London, UK

This autumn, Ida met Kara, a South African Jewish woman. They recently met up for the second time in a London café.

As they discussed what was going on in their lives, Ida shared that she had recently hosted a short-term mission trip from Hong Kong and how the team had been out sharing the gospel on the streets. Ida also gave Kara a small gift — a keychain engraved with the Chinese words ‘Peace and Joy’. She explained that true peace and joy come only from Jesus.

Grateful for the gift, Kara listened carefully before asking why Ida was so keen to share her faith. This gave Ida the opportunity to say that - because of Jesus - she has hope for the future and for eternity. Ida explained that her desire was for others to experience this same hope and joy.

Kara asked further questions about Ida’s faith, so Ida shared her testimony, telling the story of how she came to faith. She told Kara how she stays connected with God every day through prayer and the Bible.

Kara’s eyes lit up at the mention of the Bible and she asked if Ida had any books containing Bible verses and uplifting messages. Ida promised to bring her some next time they met.

Ida also offered to study the Bible with Kara, who thanked her warmly for the invitation. While she didn’t accept it this time, she didn't reject it either, and is keen to continue meeting with Ida to hear more about Jesus and the Bible.

For your prayers...

  1. Please pray that Kara will be open to studying the Bible with Ida and that, as they continue to meet, God will open her heart to Jesus and save her.

  2. Please pray for Ida as she follows up new Jewish contacts from Summer School and reaches out to others through street outreach and personal evangelism.
